Artist's Comments

This art piece holds a special place in my heart, even though it only took about an hour to put together. Sometimes things just fall into place when you are trying to create them. This piece is based off the song - Breakaway, which lyrics can be found below but I wanted to give a bit more detail into this piece.

To give you a little back story, I was born near Chicago but moved to Ga when I was young to a small town in the middle of no where. Somewhere I never wanted to be, I felt closed in and trapped in such a place. It was not the kind of place that I could find who I was but had to be what others thought I should be. I was raised to be a proper lady, a southern debutant. Can we say hello Scarlet? My family was well to do and when I was younger we lived in an old plantation home built in the 1800’s. One of those homes you see in southern magazines with a wrap around front porch, stone pathway, a fire place in every room, fifteen foot ceilings, ect. I never wanted for anything in the monetary department and in fact my father bought the place just because I fell in love with it. Yes, I was spoiled. They sold it shortly after I moved out.

Why did I move out? Personal reasons but I will say this, money does not buy happiness in any shape form or fashion. I went from having anything I wanted with a snap of my fingers to working and putting myself through school. From princess to pauper in the snap of a finger, that, dig through your couch cushions to be able to buy a pack of ramen noodles for dinner poor.

Did I complain? Nope, for the first time in my life I knew what freedom was. Even though I was poor I could start finding out who I was inside, that part of me I had kept hidden for so long could start to emerge. From redneck to city girl in the blink of an eye, from future lawyer to artist in the course of a day. Granted, not that quickly, but you get the idea.

It took sometime to find myself but over that time I have become a very jaded person. This piece represents that in essence. It shows the life I had and the life I am heading towards. Walking the tracks of life and balancing between the two for now. Not forgetting where I came from but knowing where I am going. Spreading my wings and not letting anything hold me back, besides my own lack of trust in humanity. Hence the look on my face in the photo.

It is hard to move on in life and even harder to say goodbye to those we know and love but we still do and that isn’t a bad thing. I have come to learn that you should never let anyone hold you back from your dreams and not to hold anyone back from theirs.

Take what you will of this piece but know it represents my life to me, what it means to you has yet to been seen but I hope you too can breakaway and learn how to fly.

Breakaway lyrics

Grew up in a small town
And when the rain would fall down
I'd just stare out my window
Dreaming of what could be
And if I'd end up happy
I would pray (I would pray)

Trying hard to reach out
But when I tried to speak out
Felt like no one could hear me
Wanted to belong here
But something felt so wrong here
So I prayed I could break away

[Chorus:]
I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes til' I touch the sky
And I'll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget all the ones that I love
I'll take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway

Wanna feel the warm breeze
Sleep under a palm tree
Feel the rush of the ocean
Get onboard a fast train
Travel on a jet plane, far away (I will)
And breakaway

[Chorus]

Buildings with a hundred floors
Swinging around revolving doors
Maybe I don't know where they'll take me but
Gotta keep moving on, moving on
Fly away, breakaway

I'll spread my wings
And I'll learn how to fly
Though it's not easy to tell you goodbye
I gotta take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget the place I come from
I gotta take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway, breakaway, breakaway

You see things in my photos that I'd never see, make them into something that goes beyond what they were and make them into something truly remarkable.

Overall, a deep piece. Fantastic.

Aww shuck ma'am, it was nothin.

It's all about art and the interpretation of it. I take a picture. It's one thing. A railroad track. Rules of composition, converging lines etc.

You get ahold of it and it turns into a metaphor and goes beyond the original piece.

I wish I had your vision.
:iconafina79:
lol Never wish that, it leads to twisted thoughts.

No it's really not lovely...it's fantastic! It's always awesome when people write the backstory behind a piece and explain what it means to them the artist. Gives the piece so much more meaning! I love it hon it looks absolutely stunning and with the background story to go with it the vision you had while making it shines through even more. Awesome work!
